Website/Database

  • Search for what's in season/ripe now. Could use a standardized climate categorization rubric from something like Western Gardening
  • Support for all cities via sub domains (berlin.urbanedibles.org). Main domain would feature world map that aggregates all city data. Sub domains can continue to have localized focus for seasonal data, community discussion, etc.
  • Ability to flag sources for revision or removal
  • iPhone App! Geolocation, photos.... a perfect platform for UE.
  • Android App! too!
  • An API for the above and other integration
  • Submit sources via text message using Twitter
  • Come and get it feature: Harvest is so time-constrained for so many things, it's feast or famine. What if there were a "come and get it" status: please come harvest my dandelions, please come pick my cherries, i'm gonna pull up all this chickweed and compost it if no one comes and gets it before Saturday. A temporary listing for something like a roadside weed might be more accurate than a permanent one, anyway. Such time-constrained listings might appeal more to property owners or residents, and also more accurately list evanescent things like chickweed. --Laurus 21:42, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
  • Submit locations by Lat/Long coords: Also support bulk importing of coords, particularly from GPS devices.
  • Display identification tips, harvesting info, recipes, etc. when you click on a source. We are currently trying to format this data in a standard way for common edibles in the NW in this wiki.
  • Link to wiki: listings on the website should link to the page on the wiki for that plant type! --laurus commune 19:14, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
  • User submitted photos for individual sources
  • Confirmation page/map when submitting sources: After submitting a source by street address, show a zooomed in map to confirm location. Allow user to click a more exact location (backyard, which side of street, etc). Google street view angle of tree could also be saved.
  • Submit multiple sources at once
  • Add social bookmarking/sharing links

On the wiki

  • Adding the CategoryTree extension would allow us to list the members of a given category on a page; primarily i'd like to list the members of the current season-category on the front page of the wiki as a "what's in season". --Laurus 21:42, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
  • I'm not sure how Wikipedia does the featured articles on the front page there, but it would be nice to do something like that (maybe on a monthly or weekly basis) to get an image on the front page. --Laurus 21:42, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
